Mike Basford's first career was as a Navy Captain and jet carrier pilot. He has served in London on the senior Naval Staff for Europe and at the Pentagon in the capacity of Budget Director and Legislative Liaison for Naval aviation. The latter activity required long hours on Capitol Hill working with the congressional staffs. He held command of three aviation units and holds the Legion of Merit, four Distinguished Flying Crosses and fifteen Air Medals as well as numerous other decorations.
As a General Manager with Douglas Aircraft Company, he was deeply involved in training and operational matters and was instrumental in standing up the nation's first totally integrated flight training system. He later was designated President McDonnell Douglas Training Systems, Inc.
He is currently involved in writing about his exciting experiences in the Navy as a carrier pilot/budget director, and the aerospace industry as a senior manager. Global travel and graduate schools, civilian and military, added to the above have given him an unparalleled background for his writing.
His first novel, America First, won 2nd place honors in 2002 for published fiction by the Arizona Authors Association.
He graduated from the Naval Academy, completed flight training, studied International Relations (Far East) at American University, Systems Management at UCLA, and attended the Army Staff College and the National War College.
